How to Update Your Pump Software

Optimize your t:slim X2 insulin pump by getting the most up‑to-date software.

To get started, follow the step-by-step instructions written below or watch this four minute instructional video. The update process will take you from the customer portal to your insulin pump, so make sure you have multiple browser windows open.

t:connect Customer Portal

Log in to Your Account

Go to portal.tandemdiabetes.com and sign in using your existing t:connect web application account credentials (email address and password).

Note: If you need help remembering your login credentials, you can use the "Forgot email" or "Forgot password" links available on the login page. If you do not have an existing t:connect web application account, you can create one.

Note: The email address you used to sign into the t:connect portal may not match the email address we have on file for you. If you see a message that says we are verifying your email address, try signing out of your account and then signing back in. If you continue to receive this message, try logging in with a different email address or contact Customer Technical Support so that we can update the email address in our records.

Request Software Update

From the Home page, confirm there are no outstanding software update activities listed under the My Activities header and then select My Devices from the top navigation
Once the My Devices page has loaded, select the device you want to update and then select Update My Software
In the new window that opens, select Begin Update Process

Note: In order to be eligible for software updates, you must first complete the initial pump training on your Tandem insulin pump. If a message appears saying that pump training is not complete and you completed the initial training more than two weeks ago, please contact Clinical Training. We will review and respond to you within 1-2 business days.

Complete Update Activities

Completing this step depends on several factors — including actions from your healthcare provider (HCP) — and the process could take up to two weeks.

Confirm Your Information

In order to update the software on your t:slim X2 insulin pump, you need to confirm that the information we have on file for you is correct.

Note: If you make any changes within the t:connect portal, a Tandem representative will have to manually update your information in our records (can take several business days). You won’t be able to move forward in the update process until your information has been updated.

Prescription Waiting Period (not always required)

If your t:slim X2 insulin pump does not already have Basal-IQ technology or Control-IQ technology on it, a prescription may be required to update your pump. Tandem will automatically request a signed prescription from your HCP. This process can take up to 14 days (depends on HCP availability). Once we receive the signed prescription, you will be notified via email and your online training will become available.

Complete Required Training

Based on the update selected and the current software version on your pump, you may be required to complete online training. This can take either a few minutes or a few hours, depending on how many modules were assigned.

Note: After watching the online training modules, you cannot rewatch them in the t:connect portal. If you want to rewatch any completed training modules, please visit our Support Center.

Note: If you see a message while completing any of the above steps that indicates an error has occurred, please visit our Support Center for solutions on how to potentially resolve this issue.

Open Activities?

Check if you have any open activities under the My Activities header on the Home page. If you have any software update activities open, you will need to complete them prior to requesting a new software update.

Your Email Inbox

Prepare to Update

Once you’ve completed your online training, an email will be sent to you with your unique Update ID number. Please make sure to save the Update ID and serial numbers listed within the email.

Note: This instructional email will come from noreply@tandemdiabetes.com. If you do not receive it within 2 hours, please check your email's spam folder or another email inbox that we may have on file for you.

Tandem Device Updater

Install Device Updater Software

Tandem Device Updater is a program that runs on your desktop computer (requires internet access) and allows you to update your t:slim X2 pump software.

Note: The program should automatically start once installation is complete. If it does not start automatically, locate the icon on your computer’s desktop, in the program folder (PC) or in the applications folder (Mac).

Update Your Pump Software

Follow the prompts to update your t:slim X2 insulin pump. The process should take fewer than 10 minutes to complete. Please reference this list of items that you should have ready prior to updating your pump.

Note: When updating your t:slim X2 insulin pump software, always follow all security precautions and instructions provided to you in the user guide for the Tandem Device Updater.

Note: Your pump settings won’t be erased. If you have an active sensor session when you start the update process, you will need to restart the session again on your t:slim X2 insulin pump after the update is complete. The update process will NOT stop the sensor session, and you will not need to enter your transmitter ID again. When your pump asks if you have a sensor code, tap SKIP. Confirm that your Control-IQ technology setting is ON (if applicable) and reload a cartridge. Your insulin on board (IOB) and max hourly bolus will be reset.

Note: If the Tandem Device Updater encounters a condition that will not allow you to continue, you will see an error message on your computer screen. Follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the error and continue with your update. If you are unable to continue with your update, contact Customer Support at (877) 801-6901. Reference the Troubleshooting section of the Tandem Device Updater User Guide if you have trouble connecting your pump or starting an update.

The updated t:connect mobile app frees you to bolus from your smartphone without touching your t:slim X2 insulin pump.* It also serves as a secondary display that allows you to stay informed of your diabetes management from the convenience of your smartphone.

* Bolus delivery from the t:connect mobile app requires a compatible smartphone model and operating system, an app update, a remote software update on the customer’s t:slim X2 insulin pump and additional training. Only available to customers who reside in the United States and who are in warranty at the time they update their pump.

Important Safety Information

RX ONLY. The t:slim X2 insulin pump, Basal-IQ technology, and Control-IQ technology are intended for single patient use. The t:slim X2 pump, Basal-IQ technology, and Control-IQ technology are indicated for use with U-100 insulin only.

t:slim X2 insulin pump: The t:slim X2 insulin pump with interoperable technology is an alternate controller enabled (ACE) pump that is intended for the subcutaneous delivery of insulin, at set and variable rates, for the management of diabetes mellitus in people requiring insulin. The pump is able to reliably and securely communicate with compatible, digitally connected devices, including automated insulin dosing software, to receive, execute, and confirm commands from these devices. The pump is indicated for use in individuals six years of age and greater. Basal-IQ technology: Basal-IQ technology is intended for use with a compatible integrated continuous glucose monitor (iCGM, sold separately) and ACE pump to automatically suspend delivery of insulin based on iCGM readings and predicted glucose values. The bolus calculator is indicated for the management of diabetes by people with diabetes by calculating an insulin dose or carbohydrate intake based on user entered data. Basal-IQ technology is intended for the management of diabetes mellitus in persons six years of age and greater. Control-IQ technology: Control-IQ technology is intended for use with a compatible iCGM (sold separately) and ACE pump to automatically increase, decrease, and suspend delivery of basal insulin based on iCGM readings and predicted glucose values. It can also deliver correction boluses when the glucose value is predicted to exceed a predefined threshold. Control-IQ technology is intended for the management of Type 1 diabetes mellitus in persons six years of age and greater.

Warning: Control-IQ technology should not be used by anyone under the age of six years old. It should also not be used in patients who require less than 10 units of insulin per day or who weigh less than 55 pounds.

Control-IQ technology and Basal-IQ technology are not indicated for use in pregnant women, people on dialysis, or critically ill patients. Do not use Control-IQ technology if using hydroxyurea. Users of the t:slim X2 pump, Basal-IQ technology, and Control-IQ technology must: be able and willing to use the insulin pump, CGM, and all other system components in accordance with their respective instructions for use; test blood glucose levels as recommended by their healthcare provider; demonstrate adequate carb-counting skills; maintain sufficient diabetes self-care skills; see healthcare provider(s) regularly; and have adequate vision and/or hearing to recognize all functions of the pump, including alerts, alarms, and reminders. The t:slim X2 pump, transmitter, and sensor must be removed before MRI, CT, or diathermy treatment. Visit www.tandemdiabetes.com/safetyinfo for additional important safety information.

t:connect mobile app: The feature set available within the t:connect mobile app is dependent on the pump software version and the compatible smartphone’s model and operating system (OS).

The Display and Data Upload feature set provides a secondary display of pump and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) information, including display of your pump alerts and alarms, and enables wireless uploading of pump and CGM data to the Tandem cloud through an internet or wireless data connection. Standard carrier data rates may apply.
The Bolus Delivery plus Display and Data Upload feature set additionally allows users to request, stop, and cancel a bolus on the pump from the t:connect mobile app. At least one smartphone security setting must be enabled to utilize the Bolus Delivery feature of the t:connect mobile app.
WARNING: Always rely on your pump to make therapy decisions when using a smartphone that is incompatible with the Bolus Delivery feature.
PRECAUTIONS: Always rely on your pump to make therapy decisions if using a smartphone that is incompatible, the smartphone is lost or damaged, or the smartphone loses Bluetooth® connectivity with your pump. Important pump alerts and alarms are only received as app notifications when enabled and the app is either active or running in the background.
