Control-IQ Technology Now Available in Canada!

Software update process for the t:slim X2 insulin pump

The latest software for t:slim X2™ insulin pump users—Control-IQ™ advanced hybrid closed-loop technology—is now available! This remote update is available for you to download from the comfort of your own home, using a personal computer. Below are the easy steps in the process, and general guidelines for how long they may take.

Please be aware Tandem Diabetes Care does not offer the ability to revert from Control‑IQ technology to previous software version(s) of your pump (e.g., Basal-IQ™ technology).

Each pump user must also meet the following criteria to use Control-IQ technology:

  • Pump user is age six years or older
  • Pump user requires total daily insulin between 10-100 units
  • Pump user’s weight is between 25-140 kg (55-308 lb)
  • Dexcom G6 CGM (sold separately) is required for the Control-IQ feature to function

If you meet all the above criteria, you can follow the directions below to access the required patient training module to learn how to use the Control-IQ feature:

1

Begin by accessing the Control-IQ Technology Training Module.

Additionally, if you’d like to learn more about the new pump menu features included in this software update, watch this optional training video.

1

After you complete the module (which may take 80-90 minutes), you must pass a quiz, then email a copy of the training certificate to Customer Care at BenefitsCanada@tandemdiabetes.com. You can complete this process by taking a screenshot of the certificate once you have completed the quiz.

1

Within 72 hours of receiving your training certificate, you will receive an email from no‑reply@tandemdiabetes.com with your unique code, along with instructions on how to access the Tandem Device Updater and complete the software update on your pump.

Note: A computer and internet connection will be required for this software update process. System requirements and more information about the process can be found on our Software Update page.

Responsible Use of Basal-IQ and Control-IQ Technologies

Systems like the t:slim X2 insulin pump with Basal-IQ technology and the t:slim X2 insulin pump with Control-IQ technology are not substitutes for active diabetes management. For example, users still must bolus for meals. Basal-IQ technology is designed to predict and help prevent lows, but it cannot prevent all lows and Basal-IQ technology does not predict high glucose events. Control-IQ technology is designed to predict and help prevent low and high glucose events, but it cannot prevent all highs and lows, and Control-IQ requires that users accurately input information, such as meals and periods of sleep or exercise. The Basal-IQ and Control-IQ features rely on continuous CGM readings and will not be able to predict glucose levels and adjust insulin dosing if your CGM is not working properly or is unable to communicate with your pump. Be sure to always use your pump, cartridges, CGM, and infusion sets as instructed and check them regularly to make sure they are working properly. Always pay attention to your symptoms, actively monitor your glucose levels, and treat according to your healthcare provider’s recommendations.

From time to time, we may pass along suggestions, tips, or information about other Tandem insulin pump user experiences or approaches to the management of diabetes. Please note, however, individual symptoms, situations, circumstances, and results may vary. Please consult your physician or qualified healthcare provider regarding your condition and appropriate medical treatment. Please read the Important Safety Information before using a Tandem Diabetes Care product.
